  • Misty, calm, warmer, temp: 53, high: 81.
  • And by the time you read this Jim, Randy, Denise, & Candy will be well on their way to Port Madison for some deep sea fishing in the ocean (gulf).
  • "the best laid plans . . ." where have you heard that before? Yes, it happened. The fishing trip was canceled.
  • Our troop of Candy, Jim, Randy & Denise got to Port Madison in plenty of time for fishing, but the fishing boat decided it needed the day off, so it refused to start and about 10, the captain called off the outing.
  • So they called us suggesting that we reconnoiter on South Padre Island for the afternoon. Didn't get home til after 6. But had a nice day of sand beaches and sun.
  • In the early evening, Dan called to tell me I missed a "big" show storm that day in Minnesota - it snowed all of 4" which the news reported as a big storm. He also briefed me on his family news. Thanks, Dan, for the call.
  • And our fisher-people get to go fishing on Wednesday. We wish them luck.

Thursday, February 5, 2015

  • Pleasant morning, cool, breezy, high clouds, temp: 55, high: 62.
  • Joined about 25 guys for men's breakfast at Taco Fiesta.
  • For lunch, Diane made delicious homemade tacos which we ate out on our veranda. It was only sorta cool.
  • Napped
  • While the temp is 61 and it's quite windy, I biked my 2 1/2 miles around the park.
  • Fish dinner at Popeyes.
  • Below are pictures - first off, the Noble Drilling platform perhaps in for its periodic servicing that we saw yesterday - second, lunch on the veranda today - third, gulf scene from yesterday at South Padre Island.
  • Enjoy!

  • The picture yesterday of the 2 young children were of my brother, Jim, and one of my first cousins, Sherrill. (THEY are not my siblings, only one is.) I think they were about 2 at the time, so the picture was taken probably sometime in the Summer of 1946. It was taken in the yard of the tenant house on Grandpa Coulter's farm near Delavan.
  • More mystery pictures coming.

  • Warming, drying trend, high fog, breezy, temp: 49, high: 68. Rain filled streets from last night have drained.
  • Early this morning, Jim left with a carload of guys to go to a Polka Jam in a park in Mission.
  • Mid morning I helped the setup crew set chairs & tables in the Hall for our afternoon jam.
  • About 10:30, temperature got above 50, so that I could make my daily (oops, haven't been doing it daily, what with rain & cold) 2 mile bike ride around the park.
  • Diane & Wendy left for their Wednesday ladies luncheon.
  • After lunch I drove us to South Padre Island. Wendy got to walk on the sand and stick her toes in the surf. (Dan, we got lost coming home unlike your excellent navigation when we went that back route.) Eventually, the sun even came out.
  • As we drove across the causeway bridge, we noticed a very large oil platform setting on the mainland. So on our way home we went looking to see how close we could get to it. We got close. It was named the Noble Driller. Pictures tomorrow.
  • The evening entertainment was a bluegrass group call Cross Strung. They were one of best entertainers to come to the park. Most enjoyable.
  • Today I have a mystery picture for you to guess who the 2 cute children are in the picture. If you can guess, send me their initials in the comments or an email. If you can guess that, then tell me where the picture was taken and in what year.

  • I'll give you a clue: they are related to me, but they are not my siblings.

  • Cool, foggy morning, temp: 43, high: 63.
  • (Diane:) trash out.
  • Gerry, Bob, Dan & I had our regular Monday morning Canadian breakfast at El Rancho Grande where all the Border Patrol go for breakfast.
  • Quiet day, not much going on.
  • Went to the bank to get some cash.
  • Received the drone I ordered a week ago.
  • Tracked Dan & Dawn from Oklahoma City to Osceola, IA where hopefully last night they winterized their trailer as their temp in the morning was only 6.
  • More pictures from South Padre Island trip.

Friday, December 26, 2014

  • Another nice morning, temp: 62, high: 79.
  • After breakfast of cereal, fruit, & toast at home, we decide today would be our big day to go over to South Padre Island.
  • So we filled the van with E85,  headed for the coast via the Military Highway.
  • Stopped at the Visitor's Center on S.P.I. & then drove to the end of the road at the north end of the island.
  • Ran around on the sand dunes for an hour or so. Dawn got some very good pictures.
  • Headed back south stopping at Clayton's Bar & Grill for lunch.
  • On our way off the island, stopped at the S.P.I. sign & took some pictures.
  • Then as we drove back west, Dan called Joe & Linda (Joe is Theresa's little brother, one of the younger twins in the family) in Donna to see if they were home.
  • Spent a couple hour at Magnolia Park where Joe & Linda winter.
  • Came back to Pharr, had supper at Stars drive-in.
  • Then last last night, Dan & Dawn drove up to Valley Fruit Company in Pharr.
  • I'll be getting lots of pictures from Dawn to post covering the last several days.
  • Finally, here a few pictures Dawn gave me last evening that I was too tired to load. Enjoy!
